KOROR (Palau Horizon, Nov. 18) — A total of 5,213 tourists visited Palau in October, a 27 percent increase over the same period last year.

Taiwanese tourists again topped the market with 2,913 arrivals, a 150 percent increase over the same period last year.

PVA said tourist arrivals are expected to grow in December, the start of the high peak season of traveling.

More tourists are also expected to arrive in the next few weeks with the airing of Palau’s commercial on CNN.

Last October, there were 355 visitors from Guam, an increase of 25 percent over the same period last year.

Visitors from the U.S. and Canada totaled 289, a 2 percent increase compared to September.

The number of tourists from the Federated States of Micronesia also increased with 48 arrivals.

Other visitors including returning residents totaled 1,204, a 44 percent increase compared to October last year.

But the number of visitors from Europe decreased from 87 in Oct. 2002 to 58 last month.

A total of 51,180 tourists visited Palau from January to October.

Last year’s total visitors figure for the same period was 58,560.
