SOLOMONS SEEK SUPPORT FOR PEARL FARMING

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Nov. 21) - Solomon Islands Fisheries and Marine Minister says the country has huge potential for pearl farming.

Nelson Kile says it has the best ocean environment for pearls and they grow faster in Solomon Islands than other Pacific countries.

He says three types of mother of pearl shells can be found in the country's waters, the penguin, gold lip and black lip shells that can be farmed.

Mr Kile says international donor countries will be asked for funding for further research and development of a pearl industry.

Donors representatives have been meeting with the government in the capital Honiara.
