SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, Dec. 3) - Mobil Oil Marianas and Shell Marianas have increased by 3 to 5 cents per gallon the pump prices of their fuel products on Saipan as the regional prices of refined gasoline products in Singapore continue to surge, Variety learned.

Mobil hiked its prices by up to 5 cents per gallon yesterday, while Shell’s 3 cents per gallon increase will take effect today.

This is the second time in three months that pump prices of fuel products on Saipan increased. The last one was in early September.

Philip Stalker, president of Shell Marianas, said the regional price of fuel from Singapore where they get their products continues to increase.

"We didn’t change our prices during the last shipment but since the prices continue to go up since September, we need to (change) our prices (now)," said Stalker.

He added that Shell’s assisted self-serve and full-serve gasoline will both increase by 3 cents per gallon.

A survey of Mobil gasoline stations in the island yesterday showed that full-serve regular unleaded gasoline cost $2.279 per gallon — a 5-cent increase from the previous cost of $2.229 per gallon.

Self-serve regular unleaded gasoline is now $2.109 per gallon, a 3-cent difference from the old cost of $2.079 per gallon.

Mobil’s full-serve super unleaded gasoline is now $2.369 per gallon, which is higher by 16 cents compared to the self-serve of $2.209 per gallon.

Diesel gasoline is now $2.359 per gallon in some stations, and $2.359 per gallon in others.
