SOMARE TO GIVE AMENDMENT ONE MORE TRY IN PNG

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (The National, Dec. 8) – The Papua New Guinea Parliament has been adjourned until January 13, 2004.

Papua New Guinea's newly-elected Governor-General, Sir Pato Kakaraya, will be sworn into office in a ceremony to be conducted in Parliament on January 20 by Chief Justice Sir Mari Kapi.

It is understood the Government will again try to pass the proposed law to increase grace period before a vote of no confidence is table from 18 to 36 months.

The government was unsuccessful in two attempts to get this bill through in this session of Parliament.

The 18-month grace period for Sir Michael Somare's government will expire in March 2004.
