SUSPECT AMERICANS BOOTED FROM PHILIPPINES

MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Dec. 30) - Two Americans with alleged links to the al-Qaeda terror network are set to be deported from the Philippines.

Authorities in Manila say brothers Jamil Daud Mujahid and Michael Ray Stubbs, were arrested earlier this month.

Both men say the allegations against them were "fabricated".

Mujahid, formerly known as James Stubbs, acknowledged that he was a Muslim convert but insisted that his brother was a Christian.

Officials in the Philippines say the two were detained in Tanza town, south of Manila, following intelligence reports that they had met with known leaders of various terrorist cells in the country with links to al-Qaeda.

Philippines Immigration commissioner Andrea Domingo said that the two had shown support for "terrorist activities" by meeting with members of the Abu Sayyaf kidnap group and the Muslim separatist Moro Islamic Liberation Front.
