ALOFI, Niue (Niue News, Jan. 3) – Niue’s First Lady Leone Tofuola Vivian, the wife of Premier Young Vivian, has died in Auckland after a long illness.

Leone Tofuola Vivian, also known as Ikiua, was a stalwart of the Ekalesia Church in Hakupu Atua and made a life-long contribution to the development of women’s affairs on Niue.

Vivian's initial work with promoting the Hakupu fiafia nights for tourists resulted in the establishment of a weekly event which has provided a regular income for village families.

Vivian supported her husband during his 31-year career in island politics.

She is survived by her husband, Premier Young Vivian, two daughters and four sons.

The Premier has been at his wife’ side in Auckland for the past month.
