MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Jan. 6) - A proposed organic law approving autonomy for the Pacific territory of French Polynesia is due to go before the French National Assembly next week.

The President of French Polynesia, Gaston Flosse, has left Tahiti for Paris where he wants to meet the president of the National Assembly as well as deputies to explain what is being sought in the statute.

Mr Flosse says a French National Assembly Law Committee is due to study the text of the organic law this week before the proposed measure goes before the assembly for debate and a vote.

He reportedly wants the National Assembly to grant the French Polynesia Assembly powers to adopt laws instead of approving decrees, as has been the tradition in the territory.
