MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Jan. 21) - Hawaii's world famous Waikiki Beach is to get a major overhaul in a bid to offset erosion that has seen 30 centimeters of beach disappear each year for the past two decades.

The state government is looking for a private contractor to pump sand from an underwater site more than 600 meters offshore.

The half-million dollar project is expected to begin in March and take about 90 days to complete.
