PNG’S DIVINE WORD UNIVERSITY TO GRADUATE 700

PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (The National, Feb. 18) - Divine Word University in Papua New Guinea will witness its largest graduation ceremony yet with more than 700 students receiving degrees this Sunday.

DWU president, Father Jan Czuba, said the graduate numbers have grown from "less than 100" seven years ago, when it was known as Divine Word Institute.

Fr Czuba said it is a positive development of the university in itself.

Divine Word University is a Catholic institution with a 99-acre campus located in Madang.

The university is expecting 410 graduates to take part in the actual ceremony on Sunday while the rest, particularly those from some of it’s affiliated and amalgamated institutions outside Madang, would not attend in person.

The graduation will for the first time see 43 health extension officers and 20 environmental health officers from the former College of Allied Health Sciences graduating with their diplomas under Divine Word.

The guest of honour will be Meg Taylor, former ambassador to the United States and currently a director of the World Bank.
