PNG GIVES $171,000 TO SOLOMONS FOR STUDENTS

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, Feb. 25) - The Solomon Islands High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea Philip Kapini today received $1.26 million (US$171,000) from Papua New Guinea, part of a $6.3 million (US$856,000) grant from Papua New Guinea.

The money received today is to go towards education of Solomon Islands students in Papua New Guinea institutions.

The remaining $5.04 million is to go towards the running of Solomon Islands High Commission Office in Port Moresby.

On receiving the money, High Commissioner Mr Kapini said the assistance is very generous, especially at this time when both countries are facing difficult economic circumstances.

He said the money came at a very crucial time that Solomon Islands needs assistance in development and resources.

The High Commissioner adds that the assistance reflects the very close ties Papua New Guinea has with Solomon Islands.
