SOLOMONS DEPUTY POLICE COMMISSIONER ARRESTED

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, Mar. 3) – Solomon Islands Deputy Police Commissioner John Homelo today was charged with five counts of facilitating false claims and one count of abuse of office.

Officials said Homelo was charged and later released on $10,000 bail.

Mr Homelo appeared briefly before Magistrate Esther Fera this evening on five counts of facilitating false claims and one count of abuse of office.

Regional peacekeepers this evening charged Mr Homelo, and the prosecution applied to the court to have Mr Homelo remanded on principal bail.

The prosecution also applied for the court to approve five other bail conditions additional to the principal bail.

The Magistrates Court accordingly approved the conditions.

They include reporting to the Central Police Station Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

The conditions also include Mr Homelo having to always reside at his home at Tandai in West Honiara, not to approach any prosecution witnesses, surrender of passport and not to apply for any international travel documents, and not to approach any international point of departure.

Mr Homelo is to appear again at the Magistrates Court on March 16th.
