SOLOMONS SOCCER TEAM SEEKS GOVERNMENT SUPPORT

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Pfnet, Mar. 24) - The Solomon Islands Football Federation head, Matthew Kausimae, has asked for government support, saying preparations for the upcoming World Cup Oceania Qualifying Tournament is the most expensive exercise the federation has undertaken so far.

The tournament is to be held in the Solomons capital of Honiara in May

Kausimae said the federation needs more than $500,000to prepare the for the tournament.

He verified that FIFA as the world soccer body only gives support for actual tournaments.

Meanwhile, the Solomon Islands’ team will travel to Port Vila next week for two preparation matches with the Vanuatu side as part of the team’s preparations for the World Cup Oceania Qualifying Tournament to be held in Honiara in May.

Both preparation matches in Vanuatu will be played at the Korman Stadium on April 3rd and 6th.

The team is also expected to travel for another series of preparation matches in Fiji later in April.
