PORT VILA, Vanuatu (Port Vila Presse, Mar. 30) - A meeting of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific next month is expected to finalize the proposed relocation of its Pacific Operations Center from Vanuatu to Fiji.

It follows a review of the Commission's structure in a bid to make it more relevant to the needs of the Pacific Islands region.

The review found Port Vila was no longer a cost-effective location for the organization.

The Commission's 60th Session will be held in Shanghai from April 22 to 28.

Fiji's High Commissioner to Malaysia, Adi Samanunu Cakobau, who is also Fiji's Permanent Representative to the Commission, has told the Pacific newsagency, Pacnews, the move will be finalized at the Shanghai meeting.
