HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, May 2) - Men and women of Aenafou tribe in East Malaita have reconciled.

Enoch Idui reports from East Malaita that about 100 people from the 15 subtribes of the Aenafou tribe attended the reconciliation ceremony at Biudolo Cultural Centre last Friday.

Deputy Special Coordinator of the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) Peter Noble, Reverend Michael Maeliau and several Malaita Provincial Assembly members attended the ceremony.

Spokesman for the Tribe Francis Gesi'au said the reconciliation was to enable tribesmen and women to forgive each other over past wrongs, restore peace and to strengthen family ties.

Mr Noble explained that RAMSI is in Solomon Islands to maintain peace, but the people must sort out their differences they have among themselves.

Malaita Deputy Premier Mr Sofu said the provincial government supports reconciliation among people of the province.
