TONGAN NOBELMAN FAKAFANUA PASSES AWAY

NUKU‘ALOFA, Tonga (Maganti Tonga, May 19) - The remains of the late Hon. Fakafanua, a Tongan nobleman who died in Hawai‘i on May 13, will be returned to Tonga early Friday May 21, for burial on Monday May 24.

Mele Tu‘iha‘angana, one of Fakafanua's daughters, confirmed that Fakafanua,70 passed away in Honolulu, Hawai‘i, on the morning of May 13.

Fakafanua is survived by his wife Kalolaine Lata ‘ i Falefehi and ten children. The eldest is a former Minister of Finance, Kinikinilau Tutoatasi Fakafanua, and the others are Kisione Lelea ‘a Fafine Fakafanua, Si‘atukimoana Tu‘utanga Hunuhunu Vaea, Czar Nikolasi Paku Fakafanua, ‘Akanesi Feangautapu Polotu Paunga, Mele ‘Ala ki Hihifo Tu‘iha‘angana, Ma‘ata Taukapa Lata ‘i Falefehi Paea, Damien Alfonso Tevita Fangupo Fakafanua, Kimami Paea and Heu‘ifanga Carson.

Noble Fakafanua is the estate owner of Ma‘ufanga, in Nuku‘alofa; Faleloa in Ha‘apai; and Nga‘akau in Tefisi, Vava‘u.

He will be buried at the family burial ground Vakataumai at Ma‘ufanga on Monday May 24, following the ‘apo or night of mourning on Sunday.
