MALAYSIA TAKES NEW INTEREST IN SOLOMON ISLANDS

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, June 22) - The new Malaysian High Commissioner-Designate to the Solomon Islands, Dato Kamilan Maksom, says his country is following with keen interest the positive developments that are taking place in Solomon Islands.

Mr Maksom today presented his letter of credence to the Governor General, Sir John Ini Lapli at Government House in Honiara.

He said the government and people of Malaysia are happy that peace has returned to Solomon Islands.

Mr Maksom said the peaceful environment, with government's continued initiative to create a dynamic economic policy, would result in a sustained economic growth and greater prosperity.

He said this has encouraged Malaysian companies to take an active part in Solomon Islands economy.

Meanwhile, Governor General Sir John said it is pleasing to know that Malaysian companies have contributed significantly to the economic development of the Solomon Islands.

Sir John encouraged Malaysian investors to come and explore the opportunities available in Solomon Islands.
