TIME FOR CHAUDHRY TO MAKE CHOICE

SUVA, Fiji (July 13) - The Supreme Court ruling on the multi- party case has been done. The onus is now on Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase and Fiji Labor Party leader Mahendra Chaudhry to sit down and iron out their differences.

Recent comments made by the Labor leader will do nothing to sort the matter.

In actual fact, it will only worsen the whole situation, making it difficult for everyone in this country.

Looking at the whole episode, the possibility of the ruling Soqosoqo Duavata ni Lewenivanua party joining force with the Labor Party is almost none.

This is due to contrasting policies the SDL and FLP have.

Prime Minister Qarase has once made it clear that if a party is willing to join them then it should support their policies, and moreover ensure that it is implemented.

So this rules out the idea of seeing Labor coming in to work with them.

But only if the two leaders are willing to make up time in resorting the problem then it will augur well for the country, which is now held at ransom.

The adage, ‘when elephants play, the grass dies,’ should ring in some thoughts to the two leaders.

Chaudhry should now make his choice on whether he wants to join SDL or else he should join the Opposition and becomes its leader.

Endless debates and seeking legal opinions on the number of seats that they are entitled to in Parliament is now a waste of time and money.

The focus is for the country to progress.

Prime Minister Qarase should be able to do a good job if only Chaudhry stays in the opposition where he will be able to question and monitor every step government takes.

Good sense should prevail now for the good of the nation.
