HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, Aug. 24) – The Vulolo House of Chiefs in Central Guadalcanal has reported violence from Chuchui to Baleho Keke, including torture, robbery, attempted rape and murder.

The incidents, apparently acts of revenge against a former warlord in the region, were said to have occurred last week, with those involved claiming to have acted on the advice of RAMSI and Police.

The chiefs reported that on the 16th to 19th of August, about 80 people comprising the paramount chief, chiefs, community leaders and youths of Goldridge area carried out the violent crimes.

They say a total of 31 houses were completely destroyed, with more than 30 families having fled, and goods were stolen.

Those involved are alleged to have taken retaliatory action against former militants that were followers of Stanley Kaoni, commonly known as "Satan," and some of his friends who are now in police custody.

Some former militants from Satan's camp are still in the community and the violent measures were alleged to have been directed against them and members of their families.

But the Vulolo House of Chiefs condemns the action and calls on the police to visit the area and clamp down on the situation.

SIBC understands that the chiefs have written to police, RAMSI and Guadalcanal provincial administration, expressing their deep concern on these latest violent activities.
