HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, Aug. 24) – Gwaunaru'u Airport near the Malaita Provincial capital of Auki in the Solomon Islands, has re-opened after having been closed by landowners since June this year.

Solomon Airlines' Marketing Manager, Wilson Ne'e confirms that the airport has been re-opened for use as of yesterday evening, and the airline will have its first flight to Gwaunaru'u tomorrow afternoon.

Mr Ne'e says the re-opening was made possible by government having met the conditions of the landowners.

He would not reveal what those conditions were, but SIBC News understands, among conditions which the landowners imposed was the settlement of lease and access arrears.

Ne'e says the airline is pleased with both government and the landowners for resolving their differences, adding that the Honiara - Gwaunaru'u route is one of the airline's most profitable circuits.
