SUVA, Fiji (Fiji 1 News) - Jione Langi has become the first Rotuman to be elected President of the Methodist Church in Fiji.

In elections held this afternoon, Reverend Langi polled 300 out of the 6,000 votes cast. Meanwhile, the Island of Cicia in the Lau Group is ready to cater to more than 1,000 people who are there to attend a Methodist conference.

Until Saturday, the villages of Nabula, Tarukula, Naceva and Na Tokalau were still collecting food and firewood.

It is the first time for the island to host a meeting of this magnitude, and the cost to the islanders is an afterthought.

The Methodist Church Conference is significant to the islanders as the President Laisiasa Rarabacaca steps down from the position after serving as head of the church for three years.
