WELLINGTON, New Zealand (RNZI, Sept. 29) – Name suppression in the sex abuse trials on Pitcairn Island has reportedly been lifted, revealing that the island’s mayor, Steve Christian, and his son Randy are among the accused.

According to the New Zealand Herald, the Christians are joined by another father and son duo, Len and Dave Brown, as defendants.

Seven men from Pitcairn face a total of 55 charges, including rape, indecent assault and gross indecency.

Two unmarried men in their 40s - Dennis Christian and Terry Young - are the the fifth and sixth defendants, with another prominent member of the community, Jay Warren understood to be facing the most minor allegation.

The trials kick off tomorrow after an eleventh hour application to have the trials adjourned was thrown out.
