HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, Oct. 5) – Solomon Islands police in Tetere on North Guadalcanal have arrested a marijuana farmer following a raid at his Tutumu village residence, west of Berande River.

Police Inspector Edward Juvia, who led the operation last Saturday, says he and his officers raided the area and uprooted 103 plants around the owners house and in his garden.

He says the raid, which took place before mid-day Saturday, was successful as they uprooted and confiscated the plants and other materials and arrested the owner of the plants.

The farmer has told police that he had been in the business of farming and selling the product locally before the social unrest up to his time of arrest.

Police say this is the second biggest marijuana raid in the Guadalcanal Plains area.

The first raid was last month when police raided and uprooted 140 marijuana plants, with the farmer still to be arrested.
