PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (PNG Post-Courier, Nov. 17) – Bougainville, just months away from becoming autonomous in Papua New Guinea, will get a smaller piece of the budgetary pie under the PNG government’s 2005 spending plan submitted to lawmakers today.

In total, the province’s allocation has gone from K73.3 million (US$23.1 million) this year to K65.7 million (US$20.7 million) under the 2005 budget.

Budget documents show that Bougainville’s development budget went from K42 million (US$13.2 million) for this year to K23.7 million (US$7.4 million) planned for next year’s budget.

The province’s budget from this year’s appropriation of K35 million (US$11 million) would increase to K38 million (US$12 million).
