SUVA, Fiji (Fiji 1 News, Dec. 9) - Government today unveiled a radical plan to commercialize, reorganize or privatize 24 ministries in either full or part. Based on a study by consultancy firm Deloittes, the report has identified ministry’s, which have been classified as high or early priority for changes. But the Public Enterprise Ministry says more scope studies will be needed to action the changes.

It's an ambitious plan that government says needs to be implemented for one reason. To make ministry's more efficient and save money..

At the Public Sector Reform workshop, the Public Enterprise ministry today tabled details of a report that no doubt is going to generate debate amongst stakeholders. It's based on recommendations by Deloiittes that 24 Government ministries undergo change from as early as next year.

CEO for Public Enterprise, Parmesh Chand says it's too early to say if all recommendations in the report will be implemented. Some of the recommendations have already been actioned, like the privatization of the Works and Energy Ministry, and the reorganization of the Fijian Affairs Ministry. The CEO Public Enterprise says implementing these recommendations is the way forward for well organised government machine. Chand says all ministries will be consulted if changes occur.
