ISLAND SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE

Editorial

Pacific Daily News

HAGATNA, Guam (Dec. 10) -Former Guam Delegate Robert Underwood, as a lifelong educator, knows the value of a college education. And he also knows that the number of students from the region attending college could and should be much higher.

Now, thanks in part to the efforts of Underwood, other regional leaders and corporate supporters, more college dreams will become realities for students of Asian and/or Pacific Islander ethnicity. The Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund will provide assistance -- up to $2,000 a year -- for students working toward a bachelor's degree.

We applaud and thank all of those involved in making this scholarship fund happen. Through their efforts, they will be improving the lives of many people in the region, as well as their communities.
