KOROR (Palau Horizon, Dec. 22) — U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Interior David Cohen is in Palau for a visit.

According to U.S. Charge’ D Affaires Deborah Kingsland, Cohen would like to conduct meetings with members of the Executive Branch, Legislative Branch and the business community to go over business opportunities discussed during the Conference on Business Opportunities, hosted by the Secretary of Interior in Los Angeles last September.

Kingsland said the meeting would be "an opportunity for local leaders to work closely with the Office of Insular Affairs and to explore ways and means to strengthen and improve Palau’s business and institutional structures and its foreign investment appeal."

Cohen had a meeting with Palau President Tommy Remengesau and members of his cabinet and members of the business community.

Cohen’s visit is scheduled from Dec. 18 to 21.

Some 15 Palau representatives attended the L.A. business conference, which showcased business opportunities in the seven island jurisdictions of the US Office of Insular Affairs.

Norton hosted the conference.

The conference highlighted opportunities in Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Republic of Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and Palau.
