SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Jan. 4) – Fiji police are holding a man in custody after receiving an alleged plan to assassinate senior members of the Fiji Labor Party.

Assistant commissioner of crime Kevueli Bulamainaivalu says the suspect was apprehended in Nadi after a complaint was lodged with the police late last week.

Bulamainaivalu says the suspect had served time in prison for coup related offences.

"We received a letter purportedly written by the Labor Party," he said. "The letter was sent to us and we want to verify and confirm the origins of the letter.

He dismissed reports that the suspect was a member of the former Counter Revolutionary Warfare Unit.
