PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (The National, Jan. 10) – Two Japanese tourists lost their cameras during an illegal roadblock at Kudjip in Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands province last Friday.

Police said some youths had blocked the road and drove away with the tourists. They later returned the car with the visitors, but stole the cameras.

Acting provincial police commander Chief Inspector Iven Lakatani said the tourists were traveling to Mt Hagen city from Chimbu.

Mr Lakatani said the same youths also hijacked a 10-seat Toyota land cruiser belonging to Minj district on the same afternoon, which was driven by district administrator Nop Aban.

They ordered the passengers out and drove away before abandoning it, escaping with some foodstuffs.
