KOROR (Palau Horizon, Jan. 14) — Two Chinese nationals were apprehended recently for alleged illegal entry into the country.

Immigration Officer III Joe Giramur said the suspects entered Palau reportedly using Taiwanese passports and fake United States visas.

Giramur said both suspects were female and one of them is a minor.

Giramur said the new border management system installed at the airport detected irregularities in the suspects’ passport.

He added that after the system rejected the passports, the immigration office immediately contacted the Guam Immigration and Naturalization Services.

Guam INS confirmed that the passports were counterfeit and at the same time the Taiwan Embassy here verified that the passports were fake.

Giramur said that this is the second time that the BMS detected irregularities in the travel documents.

The first case involves a female Chinese national who tried to enter Palau using a U.S. permanent resident card.
