SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Jan. 25) – A $74 million (US$45million) resort is set to open in Nadi, Fiji, in September and will add to the room inventory of the tourism industry, Fiji Hotel Association president Dixon Seeto says.

The construction of Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa is well in advance on prime waterfront location on Denarau Island in Nadi.

The project, which was originally to be a Novotel Resort, has been upgraded to include additional presidential and executive suites, larger standard room sizes, a luxurious resort spa center, a new restaurant and bar and Denarau's most extensive meetings and banquets venue.

"With an investment of such caliber, the hotel industry will be boosted with the extra rooms, the different types of services offered and the job opportunities for local people," Seeto said.

Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa is owned by Richmond Limited, which is a joint venture between Air Pacific and Colonial Fiji Life, which is part of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia and one of the largest investment funds in Fiji.
