SUVA, Fiji (Fiji Times, Mar. 17) - A successor to the chiefly Tui Ba title of the "vanua" [region] Nawaiviluri has been identified and now awaits confirmation for installation next month.

The mata-ni-vanua to the Marama Tui Ba, Savenaca Racele said a meeting between the four "tokatoka" [enlarged family unit] and the Native Lands Commission at the Nailaga Village earlier this year confirmed Adi Laite Kotomaiwasa the next heir to the late Tui Ba Adi Seinimili Cagilaba.

A retired nurse, Adi Laite is the only surviving sister of the late Marama Na Tui Ba.

Mr. Racele said numerous meeting had been carried in the village in preparation for the installment that will be finalized after the Easter weekend.

Meanwhile, NLC assistant chairman Isoa Nasedra brushed off the statement and said they were not aware of any meeting between the NLC and the ‘vanua.’

"As far as we’re concerned no meeting has taken place between the commission and the ‘vanua.’ All we know is that they [‘vanua’] were told to hold the Veitarogi vaka-vanua first before they get back with us," he said.

The title was left vacant after the death of Adi Seinimili in January last year.
