SOLOMONS GET TAIWAN-FUNDED BOAT

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, April 3) – Isabel Development Company now has another vessel added to its fleet in the Solomon Islands.

The new boat named, Estrella’ was handed over to the company after a ceremony held at Buala yesterday, the provincial capital of Isabel province.

Funds to buy the ship from a Japanese company came from Taiwan.

The ship was handed over to IDC by the Ambassador of the Republic of China in Solomon Islands, Antonio Chen.

Mr Chen said that ROC had seen shipping as an important link in the development of Solomon Islands.

He said with the additional vessel to Isabel, the people of the province will have a reliable shipping service.

He said ROC has helped all the provincial constituencies of Solomon Islands through the provision of the Rural Community Development Fund and Micro-project totaling to SB$600,000 each.

Mr Chen Taiwan also helped in other sectors such as in the Agriculture, Fisheries and Education.
