HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, May 3) – Solomon Islands Prime Minister Allan Kemakeza plans to visit Sasamunga, Choiseul province tomorrow, his first official visit to the island at the western end of the Solomons chain.

Kemakeza will join centenary celebrations marking the first arrival of missionaries from the United Church in Choiseul province.

The official celebrations will take place at Sasamunga on Thursday, exactly 100 years after the arrival on the first united Church missionaries on the island of Choiseul – also known as Lauru - in May 1905.

Kemakeza says his participation in the celebrations demonstrates his government's close working relationship with the churches in Solomon Islands. He says government fully supports the churches participation in both spiritual and economic development of Solomon Islands.

Kemakeza is expected back in Honiara on Saturday.
