MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, May 5) – The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries has signed a US$4.8 million loan agreement with Samoa to strengthen the country's petroleum bulk storage facility.

OPEC says the project represents the third phase of a government petroleum rationalisation programme to provide cost-effective security of petroleum supply and distribution.

Samoa is heavily dependent on petroleum for use in its industry, power supply, agriculture and transportation sectors.

Once the programme is completed, Samoa will be able to import and distribute petroleum products more efficiently and also increase its reserves.
