HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, May 9) – Senior political leaders from the Pacific will be in Honiara this week, to review the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI).

The Eminent Persons Group from the Pacific Islands Forum, led by Fiji’s Foreign Minister Kaliopate Tavola, is expected to talk to members of the government; other politicians; and traditional and community leaders to assess the overall impact of RAMSI and recommend the way forward.

Pacific Islands Forum Secretary General Greg Irwin, who is also part of the group, said the review is different from past investigations.

"It does need first of all remembering that RAMSI is a regional operation and we’re very keen that it remain so, we’re very keen that the regional aspect of the operation be maintained and developed as far as it can that’s the first reason so we’re coming at if from that perspective which is a slightly different one from some of the reviews that have been conducted."
