WELLINGTON, New Zealand (Radio New Zealand International, June 2) – Fiji has exported 44 sheep costing US$86,000 to Tonga to help start sheep farming in the kingdom.

This is the second such sheep export from Fiji, the first one being a herd of 40 to Samoa last year.

The "Fiji Fantastic" sheep have been specially bred in Fiji for tropical conditions over the last 25 years.

The Daily Post newspaper reports that many countries have expressed an interest buying the variety, including Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, the Seychelles, Norfolk Island, Solomon Islands, French Polynesia Malaysia and the Phillipines.
