KOROR, Palau (Palau Horizon, June 22) – Palau President Tommy Remengesau has submitted a proposed $1.1 million supplemental budget to the Olbiil Era Kelulau, Palau’s bicameral national legislature.

The additional spending for 2005 is mostly for ministries under the executive branch and the House of Delegates.

The supplemental budget would add $71,000 for the Office of the Council of Chiefs.

An increase of $30,000 is also proposed for the Bureau of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of State to meet their existing commitments and actual operating costs for the consulates on Guam and Saipan, as well as the embassy in Manila.

The Ministry of Justice would also get an increase for its security-related activities, new international requirements, hiring of additional police officers and increased fuel costs.

The Attorney General’s Office would be given additional funding for repatriation and recruitment costs.

The Ministry of Health would get an increase of $60,000 to meet its obligations and mandates. The same amount was cut from the 2005 budget bill.
