KOROR, Palau (Palau Horizon, June 27) — The Koror state government in Palau has launched an animal shelter that has already performed surgeries on 100 cats and dogs.

Koror sanitation department chief Scott Yano said that 92 dogs and 24 cats have either underwent surgery or check-up since the shelter opened last June 7.

Yano said the shelter’s services are also being offered in other states.

In Ngardmau, four cats were seen by the veterinarians while 33 dogs in Ngatpang, Aimeliik, Ngardmau and Ngaremlengui were treated.

Yano said two foreign veterinarians are working as volunteers for the shelter with the help of veterinarian students and three local paravets.

He added that services offered by the shelter are for free but fees are being collected for medicine.

Since the shelter was launched, Yano said six stray dogs have been placed in the shelter and are up for adoption.
