PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (PNG Post-Courier, June 30) – Thanks to Tropicana Ltd in Kokopo more patients admitted at the Nonga Base Hospital in East New Britain in Papua New Guinea can now sleep on mattresses.

The company donated more than 40 single mattresses and bed sheets to the medical ward last week. It also gave cartons of sweets to the children’s ward.

Tropicana Ltd owner Sandra Lau said the donations were to aid the hospital which needed such help.

Mrs Lau said at the presentation that this would not be the first and last time that her company gave to the hospital.

She said her company would continue to support the hospital as it was her way of giving back to the people who over the years had helped her business grow.

The hospital board chairman Ronie Kalulu said this was the first time that a business house had helped the hospital and called on more to assist.

Mr Kalulu said Mrs Lau and Tropicana Ltd had set an example for others to follow.

"This hospital belongs not only to East New Britain but to the NGI region but no companies or government in the region has helped in terms of funding."
