PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (PNG Post-Courier, June 30) – Peter Earfeare, former director-general of Papua New Guinea’s International Relations Unit, has been endorsed as the new High Commissioner of Papua New Guinea to Fiji.

Mr Earfeare, who replaced Alexis Maino, presented his credentials to Fijian President Ratu Josefa Iloilo Uluvuda at the Government House in Suva on Tuesday.

During the event, Mr Earfeare reaffirmed the strong bond of friendship that exists between the two countries.

Ratu Uluvuda welcomed Mr Earfeare and wished him a successful tour of duty in Fiji and in his work towards strengthening relations between the two countries.

Mr Earfeare later paid a courtesy call on acting Prime Minister and Minister for Finance and Planning Ratu Jone Kubuabola, along with Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade Kaliopate Tavola.

During the visit, views were frankly exchanged on the various areas of bilateral co-operation between the two countries.

Topics discussed included political, economic, trade, investment as well as regional co-operation through the emerging Pacific Plan being developed by the Pacific Island Forum member countries.
