HONIARA, Solomon Islands (SIBC, July 5) – World renowned Australian band Yothu Yindi will perform in Honiara later this month as part of events and activities marking the second anniversary of RAMSI [Regional Assistance Mission Solomon Islands] in the Solomons on July 24.

This was confirmed by RAMSI Special Coordinator James Batley, as he announced a number of events planned for the anniversary.

The theme of the second anniversary celebration is: "Iumi Tugeta Savve Duim".

Mr Batley says the theme underlines the partnership between RAMSI and the people of Solomon Islands.

He says the people of Solomon Islands and RAMSI are working together in a whole range of areas to help the country recover from the tension period and to move forward.

Among events and activities planned for the celebrations is a free public concert at Town Ground in Honiara on Saturday July 23rd, which will feature among others, the Australian band Yothu Yindi.

Two other Australian bands – one military and one police, will also be playing at this concert, as will leading Solomon Islands bands.

Some of the visiting musicians will also be travelling to provincial areas.

On Sunday 24 July, the Solomon Islands Christian Association is organising a public service of thanksgiving in Honiara, at the Melanesian Cultural Village.

Churches around the country plan to hold special services on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 July.

Local activities are also planned by PPF Posts around the country, in partnership with their local communities.
