SOLOMON ISLANDS CELEBRATE INDEPENDENCE

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, July 6) - A parade is planned tomorrow at Lawson Tama to mark the Solomon Islands’ 27th anniversary of independence.

[PIR editor’s note: The former British protectorate gained independence within the Commonwealth in 1978.]

Participation in the parade will include the Royal Solomon Islands Police, scouts, girl guides, pathfinders, school children, youth groups and cultural groups.

The keynote address will be delivered by Prime Minister Sir Allan Kemakeza.

Following his speech will be the announcement of honors and awards.

There will also be the RSIP Band display, cultural and martial art groups display to end the day’s program.
