PAPEÉTE, Tahiti (Tahitipresse, July 6) - Air Tahiti Nui’s new Airbus - "Nuku Hiva" - landed at Tahiti Faa'a airport on Monday at 11:55 p.m. on its maiden direct flight from New York City.

The flight was greeted with many dances, flowers, wreaths and smiles.

"This is the happy outcome of a long story. I really hope it will prove to be a fruitful enterprise in the future," Jacqui Drollet, French Polynesia Vice-President and Minister for Tourism, stated.

On the occasion, Polynesia government had invited different VIP. But some like Hillary Clinton, New-York senator and former first Lady, and New-York former mayor, Rudolph Giulani, did not turn up eventually.

"It was a very agreeable flight. I think Air Tahiti Nui was quite right to launch this rotation between Papeéte and New York," said Eni Hunkin, an American congressman invited by Polynesian government.

It seemed to be "a quick trip" to Eugène Gosy, a passenger from New York.

"The cabins are comfortable and service on board is excellent. We did not expect either to be so wonderfully welcomed on arrival," he pointed out.

The inaugural flight counted 140 passengers, half its capacity on board.
