PAPEETE, Tahiti (Tahitipresse, July 9) – After its first flight between Papeete and New York earlier this week, Air Tahiti Nui started direct flights to Sydney, Australia. The first plane took off on Friday at 2 a.m..

Contrary to the launching of the New York route, for which a great celebration was organized on July 4, the Sydney route was much more modestly opened.

Furthermore, since April 2001, Air Tahiti Nui passengers have had the possibility to reach Sydney via Auckland, New Zealand thanks to a "code-share" agreement with Australian company Qantas.

Air Tahiti Nui managers recently informed that passenger occupancy on Papeete-Sydney route has until now been far less important than that of Papeete-New-York.

Last March, the company organized a promotion flight from Australia to Polynesia.
