HONIARA, Solomon Islands (Solomon Star, July 19) – Solomon Islands Aviation, Telecommunications And Meteorology Minister Simeon Bouro will join two other ministers from Pacific Islands Forum countries on a mission to New Caledonia, part of an ongoing process to monitor the progress and implementation of the Nouma Accord.

The other ministers are Fiji Foreign Affairs Minister Kaliopate Tavola and Nauru Education Minister Baron Waga.

Forum officials told Oceania Flash on Friday that the delegation left Saturday for the one-week mission, from July 15 to July 22.

The Accord, which paves the way for gradual transfers of powers from metropolitan France to local authorities and sets a timeframe for a possible independence referendum was signed in 1998 between the French government, pro-independence FLNKS party and anti-independence Ressemblement RPCR.
