SUVA, Fiji (Oceania Flash, July 25) – Hawaii lawmaker J. Kalani English, a state senator representing the island of Maui, recently paid a visit to the legislative assembly in Tahiti.

English, on a private visit last week in French Polynesia to visit family, paid a courtesy call to Tahiti legislative assembly Speaker Antony Géros, the Speaker's office said in a release.

Part of English's family is from Tahiti, it was reported.

The purpose of his visit to the local Parliament was to familiarise himself with local institutions and politics.

Both Géros and English are reported to have called on closer relations between the Tahitian and Hawaiian communities, which are both Polynesian.
