SUVA, Fiji (Fijilive) - Union members for the Fiji Electricity Authority will go on strike next week if their demands are not met, says union rep and parliamentarian Daniel Urai.

Urai made the comment after talks with the FEA management fell through.

"We were supposed to have a meeting at the FEA office but we were told that we could not hold any meetings with union reps until Friday," he said.

"But we have informed our members that at 8am on September 8 we will be going on strike," Urai said.

He said they would not negotiate for half of their demands but want all of it fulfilled.

The FEA has over 400 union members.

Urai said the workers had placed several demands with the authority's management and board but nothing materialized.

"The issues range from Cost of Living Adjustments and pay increase," Urai said.

He said the authority has been posting profits each year but was unable to pay its workers what they deserved.

Urai said they had already lodged their notice with the Ministry of Labour.
