MELBOURNE, Australia (Radio Australia, Oct. 1) – New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark has secured an historic third term in power after final election results confirmed her Labour Party as the biggest political force in parliament.

Miss Clark says she is hopeful of forming a government within two weeks after opposition leader Don Brash conceded defeat.

Final election results show Labour steady with 50 seats, while the National down one seat to 48.

Miss Clark says she will begin talks with minor parties on Monday to secure the support of the 11 more seats necessary to form a working majority in the 121-seat parliament.

The 55-year-old Clark is the first Labour leader to win three terms in office.
