KOROR, Palau (Palau Horizon, Oct. 31) — Ngarchelong state in Palau garnered the highest score in six categories out of nine competitive events to wrest top honors from Ngchesar state in the recently concluded Olechotel Belau Fair.

Twelve states participated in this year’s fair held on Oct. 23 and 24.

Ngarchelong got a total of 250 points, dominating in six competitions — culinary arts, performing arts, woodwork and carving, flora, traditional medicine and healing arts, and the Miss OBF 2005 pageant.

Defending champion Ngchesar received 236 points topping three competitions — traditional sports and games, traditional medicine and healing arts and the Mr. OBF 2005 pageant.

Ngardmau was in third place with 198 points and Airai finished fourth with 160 points.

Koror earned 136 points and ended in fifth place.

The rest of the rankings are Peliliu, sixth place, 134 points; Sonsorol, 68 points; Ngaraard, 44 points; Hatohobei, 42 points; Kayangel, 10th place; Aimeliik, 11th place; and Ngatpang 12th place.

The competitions were based on a point system with 32 points as the highest score and two as the lowest.

Ngarchelong received a trophy in the form of a storyboard as its prize.
