SAIPAN, CNMI (Marianas Variety, Nov. 21)—At the closing of SPC’s 4th conference here, Pacific officials gave an outstanding and warm round of applause to the SPC executive team particularly to Director-General Lourdes Pangelinan for her great contribution to SPC and the Pacific island countries and jurisdictions.

Addressing "the daughter of Guam," the island’s Gov. Felix Camacho said "On behalf the people of Guam, I would like to congratulate Dr. Jimmie Rodgers on his post as the new director-general of SPC. I pray for God’s blessings upon you for his continued favor, wisdom, discernment, vision, and courage as you serve the Pacific Community, and for continued unity, peace and prosperity for the SPC organization."

He added, "I would also like to take this opportunity to honor and commend Lou Pangelinan for her service to the SPC. We on Guam are extremely proud of her accomplishments. Lou will not be lost to SPC, as her excellent work, her positive contributions and tremendous influence over the past 10 years will remain and will carry on through the new leadership of Dr. Jimmy Rodgers."

Camacho said he is "sure that Lou will consider coming home soon as her people of Guam eagerly await her return with open arms."

Ambassador Bruno Gain of France also commended Pangelinan.

"Your smiling authority, your enormous talent and outstanding work has contributed to maintaining SPC a healthy and strong organization, a work that was started by Bob Dunn, your predecessor," Gain said.

He added, "Dear Jimmie, congratulations on your new appointment. I have no doubt that you will carry the torch forward after the good work of the two predecessors."
